SUMMARY
With today's increase in the urgency of environmental issues, such as global warming, pollution, energy shortage, green house effect and climate changes, it is essential to educate today's younger generations. The common vision has brought the six participating schools together with the idea of producing eco-performances emphasizing the importance of environmental issues for a livable future and addressing the problems of prejudice, self-centeredness, and how to use the diversity to improve understanding and tolerance.
This project will rise pupils' knowledge and understanding of local and European ecological issues. The project 'Hand in Hand for a happier Earth' is designed to encourage whole-school action for the environment. It allows all pupils and staff in each partner school to study environmental issues which are of greatest concern in each country, with a view to establishing good practice in sustainable eco-development and thus being able to face up the challenging problems our planet is facing.
The process and results will be documented and monitored through the website, which is developed in open dialogues between partners at all level-pupils, teachers, administrators-throughout the project. English, ICT, Social Studies, Science and Visual Arts will be studied and findings will be shared on the common web page. Through monitoring and evaluating, teacher will have a facilitator and mentor position by guiding pupils.
The language of the project is English and schools may use their mother tongues if needed in the project activities. Based on a constant exchange of ideas and reflections the project will develop from a national to an international performance focusing on the understanding of different cultures, overcoming prejudices and enhancing tolerance.
